Norgaard reveals why Tottenham is not the right fit for him despite Thomas Frank connection
Claus Norgaard, who has worked as assistant manager at Brentford for the last two and a half years, has now explained why he did not follow Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Tottenham have managed to secure Frank’s A-team, with three of his assistants following the Dane from Brentford to Tottenham.
Undoubtedly, the biggest of those captures for the Lilywhites was Frank’s right-hand man, Justin Cochrane, who was reportedly in line to replace Frank as Brentford’s head coach had he stayed at the West London club.
Spurs have also appointed Chris Haslam (Head of Performance) and Joe Newton (First Team Coach Analyst) from the Bees, while Andreas Georgson, formerly of Manchester United, has also joined the club as assistant coach.
Claus Norgaard could not make things fit at Tottenham
Georgson’s arrival is perhaps a bit of a surprise to some as he takes the place of Claus Norgaard, who has been the assistant manager at Gtech Community Stadium since December 2022.
The 45-year-old has now revealed that he could not make things fit at Tottenham Hotspur and wished Frank the best in his new adventure in North London.
When asked about parting ways with the 51-year-old, Norgaard told Bold: “Everything has happened with great respect for each other. I have the best memories with Thomas after working closely together for two and a half years.
“There were several things that came into play when Thomas moved to Tottenham. Personally, I couldn’t make it fit in that well. When you take a job like the one Thomas has taken, it requires enormous dedication. Now we’re parting ways, and I greatly appreciate our collaboration over the many years.”
Spurs legend is excited by the arrivals of Thomas Frank and Justin Cochrane
One man who is over the moon with the new coaching regime at Tottenham is Jermain Defoe, who had an opportunity to watch Frank and his assistants work in close quarters last season.
Defoe admitted he was mightily impressed by how clear Frank and Cochrane are with their messaging, and backed the pair to get the best out of the Spurs squad.
However, they now face the difficult challenge of overseeing the club’s return to the Champions League, a competition in which Frank has never managed before.
