Brad Marchand’s Cup Run Impresses 2011 Bruins Champion

Former Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand won his second Stanley Cup on Tuesday night, but this time with the Florida Panthers.

Former teammate Shawn Thornton, who was on the 2011 Boston Stanley Cup team, is now a business executive for the Panthers. Marchand impressed his former teammate with his performance, something Thornton wasn’t surprised at.

“He’s been a big-game player his whole career. In 2011, he was arguably our best player,” Thornton said, according to ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski. “I wasn’t surprised to see the magic he was making. I don’t think the age thing is in his head.”

The 37-year-old was one of the best players on the ice for Florida throughout the series. In six games, Marchand netted six goals, including two multi-goal games. He set a Stanley Cup record, becoming the first player in NHL history to score at least five goals in a Stanley Cup Final with two separate teams.

During the 2011 Bruins Finals run, he scored five goals to eventually help Boston win in his first full season with the team.

Marchand admitted on Tuesday that his playoff run with the Panthers meant more to him due to the fact that he could appreciate it more.

While it’s hard for some Bruins fans to see Marchand win the Stanley Cup with another team, his former teammate is happy to see him win another one.
