Bruins Superstar David Pastrnak Snubbed In Hart Trophy Voting
The 2024-25 Hart Memorial Trophy results were announced on Thursday, and they were surprising, especially for Boston Bruins fans.
Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck took home the award, beating out Edmonton Oilers center and NHL leading goal-scorer Leon Draisaitl. Hellebuyck, who also won the Vezina Trophy, became the first goalie in 10 years and just the fourth in the expansion era to win the Hart Trophy.
There were surprises further down the ballot, too. Three-time Hart winner Connor McDavid finished 10th — his lowest finish since 2015-16 — and Bruins star David Pastrnak finished 11th, missing the top 10 completely.
Based on the numbers, Pastrnak deserved a higher finish. While Boston failed to make the postseason this year, he still had a tremendous individual campaign.
Despite having a limited supporting cast around him, the 29-year-old right winger still racked up 106 points, the third-most in the NHL. He was fifth in goals (43) and seventh in assists (63) despite losing several key teammates at the trade deadline, including Brad Marchand and Charlie Coyle.
Pastrnak carried an enormous offensive load for the Bruins this season, scoring or assisting on 47.7% of their goals. He became just the third player since 2000 to score at least 19% of his team’s goals, joining Draisaitl and McDavid.
The 11-year veteran also played all 82 games for the third consecutive season, continuing to suit up even after Boston was eliminated from playoff contention. He also set a career high in time on ice with 1,655:16 minutes.
Statistically speaking, Pastrnak deserved a top 10 finish. He likely suffered in the voting due to his team’s disappointing 33-39-10 record, however, which probably caused some voters to overlook him.
Regardless, that doesn’t diminish his impressive season. He was still named a Second-Team All-Star and remains one of the best players in the NHL, not to mention Bruins history.
