Hall Of Famer Attacks Patriots Legend Tom Brady’s Announcing Skills

Tom Brady may be the GOAT behind center, but when it comes to TV announcing, he still has plenty of work to do. That’s what Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe said about the legendary New England Patriots quarterback.

Brady is getting ready for his second season in the FOX broadcast booth. By most accounts, the seven-time Super Bowl champion improved over the course of last season. But Sharpe used Monday’s installment of his “Night Cap” podcast to explain how Brady can get better.

“All we ask is that you don’t make excuses,” Sharpe said, per Awful Announcing. “If Patrick Mahomes made a bad throw, say, ‘Patrick Mahomes made a bad throw.’ That’s all. I mean, he’s human.

“Michael Jordan took some bad shots. Didn’t play well. It’s right to say that that happened. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes — it does not matter — if a guy doesn’t play well, it’s your obligation, because you know what the casual fan at home doesn’t know.”

Brady is in a bit of an awkward situation. As a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, he is banned from visiting team facilities. Brady also can’t talk to the coaches and players before each Sunday’s game. But Sharpe said the five-time Super Bowl MVP can still find a way to be honest with his opinions.

“I don’t think that’s asking much for the guys that’s calling the game,” Sharpe said. “You have to work a very fine line if you do play-by-play or you do color, which Tom does color.

“So, you have to walk that (line). ‘Yeah, that was a bad throw. That’s not like Patrick Mahomes.’ You know what I’m saying? You gotta couch it. ‘I know what he saw on that one. That’s not like Patrick, a guy that’s played and won as many Super Bowls as he has, and MVPs, that’s not like him, so give the defense credit on that.’”

Brady, who signed a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX, will be back in the booth this season with play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt as the network’s No. 1 broadcast team.
