Gary Neville urges Man United to sell four players amidst squad overhaul
In the wake of Manchester United’s disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League and a Europa League final loss to Tottenham, club legend Gary Neville has called for a significant squad overhaul.
With United expected to be active in the summer to provide Ruben Amorim the right players and the team he needs to flourish at the club, the Premier League giants are prepared to make some big decisions this summer.
The Red Devils have already completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and with Bryan Mbuemo showing his desire to make a move to Old Trafford, attacking players would be to be offloaded to make way for new players.
Neville has named Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho as the players United should sell this summer.
Marcus Rashford has no future at Man United
On Rashford, he said, on The Overlap show, It’s Called Soccer:
“That ship has sailed and he needs to find himself another club.”
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa and Unai Emery’s side have not expressed their desire to sign the player permanently which would leave Rashford’s career hanging in the balance.
On Sancho, Neville said:
“Manchester United have to make sure they part ways with him.”
Having spent the whole season on loan at Chelsea who have decided not to sign him permanently, Sancho now has to find a new club since he has no future at Old Trafford.
Regarding the future of Antony, who like the above two players was sent out on loan, to La Liga side Real Betis, Neville said:
“Antony is perfect for Spain, and United should facilitate him leaving. Best for United, best for the club.”
Garnacho, who expressed his disappointment at not starting the Europa League final, could also be shown the exit door at the club.
“If players are taking on the manager, and if players are questioning the manager in public, through social media, the manager has to win, or the manager has to leave,” Neville said.
“I don’t think that’s going to happen this time. That’s happened far too many times before, so I think Garnacho will leave just purely because of that.
Ruben Amorim has big decisions to make
Neville has echoed the feelings of United fans who also feel that the above players should be offloaded this summer.
With Ruben Amorim eyeing a major squad overhaul after a turbulent season, the Premier League giants would have to raise significant funds to finance their transfer business.
