Opinion: Heung-Min-Son deserves a Tottenham mural right next to Harry Kane

0 7

Tottenham Hotspur have finally ended a 17-year wait for a trophy, and Heung-min Son deserves a lasting visual legacy outside the stadium next to his old friend, Harry Kane.

A new chapter has been written in the history of Tottenham Hotspur. Years of falling short in cup tournaments finally came to an end, as Ange Postecoglou and his players lifted the Europa League trophy.

Spurs have faced many disappointments on the long road to success, failing to rise to the occasion when it mattered the most. Despite Mauricio Pochettino’s brilliant first team in the mid to late ‘10s, his team were denied the ultimate prize.

Heung-min Son played a fundamental role in Pochettino’s Tottenham team and continued to perform at nothing short of world-class levels under Jose Mourinho.

No one on Wednesday night was a more worthy winner than the club captain, who has given his best years to Spurs, despite never lifting silverware until now.

Heung-min Son should have a Tottenham mural dedicated to him

Spurs began honouring their finest players in recent years by creating murals near the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A fan-led mural was established for legendary defender Ledley King in 2022 and Harry Kane was honoured the next year to commemorate his achievement as Tottenham’s all-time top goal scorer.

It is fitting for Heung-min Son to be the next Tottenham player to receive this tribute and what better way to do so than creating artwork which shows him lifting the most elegantly designed trophy in football?

The 32-year-old is a two-time player of the year at Tottenham and wrapped up the FIFA Puskas award in 2020, as well as tying with Mohamed Salah to win the Premier League golden boot two years later.

He initially broke into a highly competitive starting 11 and has gone on to be a key player each season. Even in a campaign where Son and Spurs as a whole have looked a long way off their best, the Korean international has still managed to register 11 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

Son has made history by remaining loyal to his beloved Spurs

Spurs have had an array of talents over the years, such as Kane, Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen, just to name a mere few. However, none of these players were able to accomplish what their former teammate has done. Individual quality will make you memorable, but winning a competition as a club is what football is all about.

Son could have decided to leave Tottenham, but he chose to stay. Now, he is able to reap the rewards of his decision.

Honouring Son with a mural opposite Kane’s would be the perfect touch, with both players forming a dynamic duo and doing so much for the club. The painters ought to ready their equipment because now is the perfect time to recognise one of the greatest servants in the history of Tottenham Hotspur.
