Walker Buehler Shares Instagram Post After Ejection From Red Sox-Mets
Walker Buehler didn’t stick on the mound for very long in his first outing in nearly a month.
But Buehler, who had been on the injured list due to a shoulder issue, didn’t receive a quick hook due to poor performance. The Red Sox starter was told to hit the showers early by home plate umpire Mike Estabrook, who tossed Buehler with one out in the third inning for leaving the bump to argue balls and strikes.
The right-hander’s ejection had a chance to be very troubling for Boston, which hasn’t seen a starter complete at least five innings since last Friday. But the Red Sox bullpen, much like Monday night, was outstanding and limited the New York Mets to a measly four hits in a 2-0 win at Fenway Park.
Buehler held himself accountable on social media after Boston’s second straight victory, but he also made sure to tip his cap to the relievers.
“Bullpen full of savages!!! Brutal way to come back and horrendous spot to put those boys in but huge team win. I’ll be better! W!” Buehler captioned an Instagram post shared late Tuesday night.
The Red Sox, who largely were led by Ramón Vázquez again after Alex Cora was ejected alongside Buehler, used six relief arms to keep the Mets off the scoreboard in the middle game. Brennan Bernardino, Garrett Whitlock, Justin Slaten and Aroldis Chapman all pitched at least one inning, while Justin Wilson and Greg Weissert combined to log four key outs.
Boston now has a chance to do something it hasn’t done since the first full week of the season: earn a series sweep. NESN will have full coverage of the finale against New York beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.
