£10m Man United star set to make shock return to national team after new appointment

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is reportedly on the verge of a shock return to the Brazil national team, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Carlo Ancelotti is set to take over as the new head coach of the Selecao later this month, ending his current stint with Real Madrid.

His next most important assignment will be the 2026 World Cup.

Romano revealed that Ancelotti has “already made initial plans” for Casemiro’s return as the 65-year-old “wants more leaders to be part of the squad”.

Casemiro has endured a difficult spell at United over the past two years, with doubts arising about whether he can still provide value at the top level for club and country.

Under former United manager Erik ten Hag, he used to lose possession of the ball by playing erratic long passes, aimed at sparking counter-attacks that rarely materialised.

The arrival of Ruben Amorim did not do him any favours as he struggled to match the high intensity required in a 3-4-3 system.

Amorim wants his players to press, but Casemiro’s diminished mobility left him struggling to keep up with the relentless pace.

However, the past two months have witnessed a stunning revival from the five-time Champions League winner.

The 33-year-old has been instrumental in United’s Europa League surge, marshalling midfield and driving them to a spot in the final.

Amorim admitted that he and his coaching staff have learned more about Casemiro and amended their tactics to suit the midfielder’s style of play.

The Portuguese head coach also confessed that the £10 million-rated ace has ‘changed his mind‘ and now could have a future at the club.

Given his recent form, Casemiro has not only silenced critics but made a compelling case for a national team comeback as he seeks to write a fresh chapter in his redemption arc.
