Ex-Celtic Rips ‘Wild’ Narrative Around Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown

A former Boston Celtics forward showed he remained loyal to his ex-teammates Friday.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were under scrutiny after the New York Knicks erased 20-point deficits in back-to-back games to take a 2-0 series lead. Despite winning an NBA championship last season, some pundits questioned whether the Celtics could make history and come back in the best-of-seven series. Grant Williams wasn’t having any of it.

“Not even with them anymore but this C’s discourse is wild,” Williams posted on X on Friday. “Everyone has a right to an opinion but JT and JB are Superstars. They are able 2 have bad games but we’ve all witnessed them both takeover. Don’t let recent events cloud your eyes from what they’ve done and accomplished.”

Only five teams came back to win the series after dropping the first two games at home. Boston did force a Game 7 two years ago against the Miami Heat when faced with such a situation but fell short. However, the Celtics remain confident in their strategy and their résumé, which Williams pointed to when responding to a user named “LukasRevengeSZN.”

“(How) many guys you know been to 5 Conf finals, 2 nba finals with a ring within their first 7 seasons? Every team has good players we just diminish them to fit our agenda,” Williams wrote.

“Every finals run has what ifs but to win it is still hard. I lost in it and it was hardest thing in my career.”

Celtics fans loved to see Williams come to his former team’s defense. But Boston will need to get the job done on the court to prove doubters wrong. That starts Saturday in Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.
