Bruins Legend Patrice Bergeron Receives Huge NHL Honor
The Boston Bruins now have two representatives on the NHL’s Quarter-Century Team.
Patrice Bergeron was named among the second group of players to be unveiled as members of the NHL Quarter-Century Team on Friday. The NHL is revealing names based on when each player debuted, with Bergeron being one of seven members to debut between 2000 and 2010, and Zdeno Chara being one of six members who debuted before 2000.
Bergeron is an NHL record six-time winner of the Selke Trophy, won the 2021 Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award, the 2013 King Clancy Memorial Trophy and the 2014 NHL Foundation Player Award.
Oh, yeah, he also won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Bruins in 2011.
“Being named to the NHL’s Quarter-Century Team is an incredible honor — one that I accept with deep gratitude and humility. This recognition is not just a reflection of my journey, but of the many people who supported me and believed in me along the way,” Bergeron said in a statement through the Bruins. “I owe so much to my teammates, coaches and trainers who pushed me to be my best, and my family, whose unwavering support made everything possible. This honor belongs to all of you as much as it does to me.
“More than anything, I’m thankful for the unforgettable memories and lifelong friendships that this game has given me.”
Brad Marchand, a longtime teammate of Bergeron, also issued a statement in the press release.
“The amount of effort and time that he takes into making sure that every single guy, every day is in the right headspace, feeling good about themselves, and he’s always trying to find ways to bring the group closer together and allow us to bond and build chemistry and he’s always trying to find a way to improve the team, make sure nothing is being missed for the group to allow us to have success,” Marchand said. “That’s the type of leadership that doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a gift.”
The NHL is expected to reveal the remaining 12 members of its Quarter-Century Team over the weekend.
