Lamine Yamal will renew with Barcelona: Contract details and hidden clauses revealed
FC Barcelona and Lamine Yamal are on the verge of sealing a new chapter in the club’s recent history. With only minor details left to resolve, an agreement between Barça and the player’s representatives – led by agent Jorge Mendes – is practically finalized.
The club intends to officially announce the agreement soon, once Lamine turns 18 this summer, at which point legislation allows him to sign long-term contracts.
As revealed by La Posesión de SPORT, the young Blaugrana prodigy will renew his contract for five more seasons, keeping him linked to the club until June 30, 2030. The agreement represents one of the most important pieces of news in Barça’s sporting plans for the future.
A meteoric rise
Lamine Yamal, at just 17 years old, has already broken several records at FC Barcelona, making his 100th official appearance in the first leg against Inter Milan. He signed his first professional contract in 2022, an agreement limited to three years (until June 2025) due to his status as a minor. However, that contract included a clause providing for an automatic extension of three more seasons, until 2028, with amounts already agreed upon at that time. However, those amounts don’t fully demonstrate what the player contributes to the team. It was something that needed to be revised.
Those figures have become completely outdated due to the winger’s soccer explosion, which has proven to be much more than just a promise. Given this context, Barça and Mendes have decided to leave behind that initial extension to draft a new contract that places Lamine Yamal in the salary and projection range that his performance demands.
A strategic contract
With this renewal, the club, presided over by Joan Laporta, aims to secure the most exciting player to emerge from La Masia since Leo Messi. The new bond will extend until the summer of 2030, when Lamine will be 23 years old. In this way, Barça secures the player during the most crucial period of his professional development.
Although the financial amounts of the new contract have not been made public, it is assumed that it will include a salary and a release clause in accordance with the player’s new hierarchy, with figures much higher than the previous ones.
Fair Play to register the contract
La Liga has introduced a key clause that allows clubs to renew players under 24 years of age even if they do not have room in their salary limit, as is the case today for Barça. The club wants to ensure that Yamal remains within the financial picture of the club.
For this exception to apply, the player must have been contracted entirely for at least the previous three consecutive seasons in the same club. Lamine, who meets these requirements after his time at La Masia and his meteoric rise in the first team, fits this profile perfectly.
