Red Sox’s Walker Buehler Makes Admission About Shoulder Injury

The Red Sox are playing it safe with one of their most important arms.

Boston placed Walker Buehler on the 15-day injured list last Friday (retroactive to April 29) due to right shoulder bursitis. It surely was a frustrating development for the Red Sox, who recently overcame the early season injury situations involving fellow starters Lucas Giolito and Brayan Bello.

Fortunately for Buehler and his team, the shoulder issue does not appear to be serious. In fact, the two-time World Series champion would have pushed through it if Boston were at a point in the season when the stakes were higher.

“If this is October, we’re not having this conversation,” Buehler told reporters Sunday before the Red Sox’s 5-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park, per The Boston Globe.

Buehler thought it was a bit “embarrassing” to land on the IL, but he did acknowledge it was “the right thing” to do at this point in the campaign. The veteran right-hander anticipated missing three starts at the very most before rejoining Boston’s rotation.

In the meantime, Buehler will continue to serve as a spectator, including Tuesday when the Red Sox open a three-game series at home against the Texas Rangers.
