Red Sox’s Walker Buehler Hits Injured List With Shoulder Injury

The Boston Red Sox just got Lucas Giolito in the rotation and will now have another starter to fill for the next few trips through.

Alex Cora told reporters that Walker Buehler will go to the injured list with right shoulder inflammation, per WEEI’s Rob Bradford and MLB.com’s Ian Browne. Hunter Dobbins is likely to get the start Saturday for the Red Sox against the Minnesota Twins.

Cora noted that Buehler’s time on the IL should be minimal, which would be betters news for the Red Sox. Buehler won each of his last three starts and allowed no more than three runs in four consecutive outings.

The Red Sox right-hander is 4-1 with a 4.28 ERA in his first six starts with his new ballclub. His impact appears to be needed even more as the next best arm thus far behind ace Garrett Crochet.

Dobbins is certainly capable of filling the role at a productive level. He won each of his first two MLB starts for the Red Sox in April with victories over the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox. With Buehler, Richard Fitts and Kutter Crawford still dealing with injuries, Dobbins is a necessary stopgap in the coming weeks for Boston.
