Tottenham fans slam Guglielmo Vicario after error-strewn Liverpool defeat

0 5

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left deeply frustrated with Guglielmo Vicario after another error-strewn performance, with many fans calling for him to be sold and dropped entirely from the squad.

Sunday’s Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool summed up everything we have come to expect from Spurs this season.

This is a team that has been inconsistent, unreliable, and downright shambolic when it comes to doing the basics.

Mistakes are simply part and parcel of this side now, and over the last three gameweeks, we have seen errors galore from both experienced heads and youngsters alike.

The manager, Ange Postecoglou, certainly doesn’t help himself either, and while there is a sentiment among some fans that the league campaign is a dead rubber, getting slapped 5-1 without any sign of fight is simply unacceptable.

Guglielmo Vicario’s latest horror show leaves Tottenham fans furious

Guglielmo Vicario was once again at the heart of the chaos. His last three Premier League outings – a 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, a 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest, and now a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool – have seen him ship 11 goals and commit a string of costly errors.

If you want to win trophies, you need your goalkeeper to stand up. Most Tottenham fans would agree that Vicario hasn’t been doing that of late.

Following the latest embarrassment, in case you have lost count, that’s 19 defeats in the league this season, we took to social media to gauge fan opinion on Vicario’s performance.

The reaction? “Awful”, “pathetic”, “needs to be sold” – frustration and disappointment were the overwhelming themes.

One supporter wrote: “I’d sell him in the summer, woeful to think we’d agreed terms with Raya but couldn’t do a deal with Brentford & ended up with Vicario. I’d play Kinsky for the rest of the season, league especially.”

Another fumed: “Awful.” A third added: “We need a new Tottenham goalkeeper.” One fan was even more scathing: “Despite the great shot stopping, his poor passing under pressure will cost us more goals. Not at the level if we are ambitious. He’s not the only problem but a big one!”

Others chimed in too: “Well below the level needed. Doesn’t inspire confidence. Needs to give himself a good talking to. I feel another senior keeper will be bought in.”

Another added: “I admire his passion, but he doesn’t fill me with confidence. Happy to swap him for Maignan.”

Another brutally summed up: “Crap, like most times he plays! Good shot stopper but poor with everything else – lately he’s not even good at stopping shots. Time for Austin or Kinsky!”

Finally, one more ranted: “Kinsky is my man against Bodo. I ain’t going back – Vicario’s foot and ball don’t like each other, terrible at handling back passes.”

Defensive issues and Spurs’ worrying numbers this season

Of course, the entire team has been dreadful at the back all season, not just Vicario, to be quite honest.

For sure, some of it falls on the tactical setup – you could argue that when you don’t play to your players’ strengths, you are asking for trouble.

But let’s not kid ourselves – Guglielmo Vicario’s mistakes aren’t always linked to playing out from the back.

When it comes to handling crosses and dealing with straightforward shots, you simply never know what you are going to get from him.

While plenty are rightly fuming over the 19 defeats racked up in the league, Tottenham have also conceded a staggering 56 goals.

With a goal difference of just +6, the way things are going, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they end the campaign with a negative tally – a damning indictment of their defensive and goalkeeping woes.
