Tottenham fans will not like Paul Merson’s Liverpool score prediction
Paul Merson has offered a score prediction for Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, with the former Arsenal man insisting that it will make no difference even if Ange Postecoglou names a full-strength side.
The biggest game of Postecoglou’s reign is coming up next week as Tottenham prepare for a semifinal against Bod/Glimt, which the North Londoners are favourites to win.
One would expect the Spurs boss to give minutes to some of his squad players in Merseyside on Sunday in order to keep his key men fit and fresh for the clash against the Norwegian side.
Virgil van Dijk has made it clear Liverpool will not be underestimating Tottenham as the Reds look to finish the job this Sunday and lift the Premier League title in front of their home fans.
Paul Merson is convinced it will be one-way traffic at Anfield
There will certainly be plenty of interest in the lineup that Postecoglou names for Sunday, but Merson believes that it will not make any difference to the result.
The pundit backed Arne Slot’s men to brush aside Tottenham with ease, even if the Lilywhites play their strongest side.
When asked to predict the result of Sunday’s clash, Merson told Sportskeeda: “Nothing but a Liverpool win here. Tottenham will surely rest key players for the Europa League semi-final vs Bodo/Glimt.
“Even if Spurs played their main team, I wouldn’t fancy them to beat Liverpool at Anfield.”
Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
Why this game is more important for Spurs than it may seem
Spurs fans might be tempted to write this game off completely and look ahead to the semifinal next Thursday.
However, the last thing that Postecoglou would want is for his side to be beaten heavily and for their confidence to take a hit ahead of their clash against Bodo/Glimt.
For that reason, the 59-year-old might hand some of his key players at least 45 minutes at Anfield, just as he did against Nottingham Forest on Monday.
