Remembering Joe McCafferty
The whole of Raith Rovers’ thoughts this morning are with the family and friends of local footballing legend Joe McCafferty.
He played a key role in establishing Glenrothes Strollers and was a pillar of our community.
Joe devoted five decades to the club and was also a huge supporter of disability sports in the region.
His tireless work led to many awards, including one for his services to sport from Kirkcaldy and Central Fife Sports Council, and one from the Scottish FA which named him as best volunteer in youth football.
He was also awarded the MacDonald’s grassroots coaching award.
For over five decades, he gave his time, energy, and love to Glenrothes Strollers Football Club and disability sports in Fife, inspiring so many young players and leaving behind a legacy of kindness, inclusivity, and passion for the game.
His impact on Fife football has been incredible, and he got the pleasure to work with some unbelievably talented players, and he was proud to play his part.
When Raith Rovers were training at the Michael Woods Centre in Glenrothes, Joe was on hand to help out with any jobs needing done and as such he made big impression on managers such as Gary Locke and Barry Smith.
He also got to know many of the Raith Rovers players of that time. Everyone at Raith Rovers appreciates the time and help he gave to the Club.
Joe’s private funeral will take place today at Kirkcaldy Crematorium.
