Chargers Embarrass Patriots, Eliot Wolf With 2024 NFL Draft Video

Eliot Wolf’s job security is on thin ice for some Patriots fans, and the Chargers didn’t help his case Tuesday night.

Los Angeles posted a behind-the-scenes video from the 2024 NFL Draft, where it traded up to draft Ladd McConkey. That offered a one-sided conversation between Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz and presumably Wolf.

Based on the video, the Patriots initially were hesitant to trade with the Chargers, hoping to get LA to disclose whether they’d use the pick to draft an offensive or defensive player. Hortiz told head coach Jim Harbaugh he wouldn’t tell.

However, it seemed as if New England was willing to make the deal anyway.

New England ultimately traded its second- and fifth-round selections (34th and 137th overall) to LA in exchange for its second- and fourth-round selections (37th and 110th overall). Those second-round picks ended up being Ja’Lynn Polk and McConkey, respectively.

And of course, the picks turned out horribly for the Patriots and Wolf’s first season as de facto general manager. McConkey turned in a great season for the Chargers with 1,149 receiving yards off 82 receptions, along with seven touchdowns. Polk only caught 12 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season.

Patriots fans didn’t need a reminder of how poorly the trade went for their team, but the Chargers decided to rub it in their faces anyway. Wolf’s name was cried out after the video was released, and fans hope that a similar mistake won’t be made this year.
