Red Sox Veteran Praised For ‘Classy’ Gesture On Rehab Outing
Liam Hendriks is a swell guy.
The Portland Sea Dogs, Hartford Yard Goats and just about everyone who works at Dunkin’ Park found that out on Wednesday.
Hendriks, who was on a rehab assignment alongside fellow pitcher Brayan Bello for the Boston Red Sox, rented a food truck for everyone who was working the game — including his opponents. Hartford shared the “classy” gesture on social media, which included a picture of the taco truck.
It’s customary for veteran players on rehab assignments to do this sort of thing, but usually only for their team.
Chris Sale (after destroying some clubhouse property) famously spent $6,000 on lunch and dinner during one of his rehab assignments with the Worcester Red Sox — splurging on some steakhouse items while also signing things for the WooSox Foundation. Dustin Pedroia used to have one-on-one dinners with members of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
Hendriks did something different, though, which was very cool.
