Joe Cole reveals who he thinks is causing the biggest problem at Tottenham

0 0

One former Chelsea player, Joe Cole, has stated that Tottenham Hotspur’s biggest problem is Daniel Levy – and not Ange Postecoglou.

Ange Postecoglou’s future has been up in the air in recent weeks, given how poor Tottenham Hotspur’s results have been in the league.

With Tottenham sat in 15th place in the Premier League table and just two points above 17th-placed West Ham United, many are left wondering how the Australian has managed to keep his job for this long.

A number of different reasons have been tossed up as to why Ange remains in charge at Tottenham, with one of them being the club’s presence in the Europa League.

Joe Cole says Daniel Levy is Tottenham’s biggest problem

It is believed that Tottenham want to allow Ange to see things out in the Europa League before making any decision on his future.

Other reports have also stated that even if Postecoglou does deliver the Europa League, his future at Spurs is far from guaranteed.

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has now given his take on what he thinks is wrong at Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the ex-player, Tottenham’s problem is beyond the manager. In fact, he believes that even if the manager is changed, the issue would still remain.

He told Paddy Power: “If Tottenham don’t beat Eintracht Frankfurt, you’d imagine that Ange Postecoglou will get the sack. However, I don’t believe that Ange is the problem at Tottenham, it’s the clarification of who they are and where they want to go, and that comes from the top and that comes from Daniel Levy.

“Over the last 20 years, there’s never been a point where Tottenham have gone for the Premier League or gone far in a cup competition.

“They’ve had plenty of managers, but the way they’ve operated in the transfer market hasn’t shown anything. They’ve got a wonderful stadium and fantastic players, but they’re nowhere near competing at the top level, and that’s down to Daniel Levy.

“Daniel Levy has done a brilliant job from a financial point of view, in terms of running a business and putting profit on the table, but the fans want to see trophies, and unfortunately, if they carry on in the same way, then nothing will change regardless of changing the manager.”

Ange Postecoglou is fighting against the tide at Spurs

Ange Postecoglou himself recently admitted that it is impossible to win some people over. The Tottenham boss thinks some in the media will want him gone, regardless of what he achieves.

He said: “I just think you can’t win the argument of convincing people. Even if we win [the Europa League], I am gone anyway, that’s just the general sentiment of the people.

“If you try to use that as a motivation, you are not going to win anyway. It’s got to be something more in it for us.

“For us, what’s most important is that we have been through a tough time but we are still in a position to make an impact. I just think there’s a real determination to take this opportunity.”
