Tottenham fans will enjoy what Micky van de Ven said about beating Eintracht Frankfurt

0 5

Tottenham Hotspur were unable to capitalise on their home advantage against Frankfurt on Thursday night, but Micky van de Ven is confident after the team’s performance.

Tottenham have been less than impressive this season in the Premier League, but their performances in Europe have been to a higher standard. Now only a victory away from a place in the Europa League semi-finals, this is the perfect opportunity to end the long wait for silverware.

This will not be easy, though, as Spurs were unable to defeat Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A win away from home will be tricky, with the German team currently sitting third in the Bundesliga, while their supporters will make the Waldstadion as hostile as possible.

Spurs ought to have been taking a lead to their quarter-final second leg, having been the dominant team in their home tie.

However, six shots on target and two shots hitting the woodwork were not enough to put them ahead. This was all the more frustrating as the visitors only managed two shots on target, with 0.36 expected goals.

Micky van de Ven has faith in a Tottenham victory

Micky van de Ven was arguably one of Tottenham’s best players against Frankfurt, earning himself an 8/10 on the Spurs Web match ratings. Speaking in a post-match interview, he revealed his team played a good game and deserved a victory on the night.

He told TNT Sports: “Yeah a really good goal. I think a really good attack also from our side. An unbelievable finish from Pedro [Porro], an unbelievable team goal I would say!

“I think we deserved more today, even like the second half we created so many chances and then we play 1-1 and I said we have to go again next week and take all these positive things.”

Asked whether the performance would give Spurs the confidence to clinch the tie away from home, van de Ven continued: “Yeah it’s gonna be a tough game, it’s a tough place to go, but you see what we showed today and how we dominated.

“Yeah we have the confidence to go there and win.”

Spurs face a tough task against Frankfurt in the Europa League

Frankfurt are unbeaten at home in Europe this season, so Spurs have to do what no other team have been able to accomplish if they are to progress to the next round.

Tottenham themselves have a mixed away record in the competition. They have recorded two defeats against Galatasaray and AZ Alkmaar respectively, while they were unable to defeat a Rangers team who were struggling domestically at the time.

Van de Ven may be confident in his side, but their best performance of the season may be required to get over the line in Germany.
