Man United academy midfielder could make first-team debut before the end of the season
Midfielder Jack Moorhouse is one of the outstanding talents in Manchester United’s academy.
He was in sublime form as Nottingham Forest staged a comeback to hold the U21s to a 3-3 draw in a thrilling Premier League 2 encounter at Leigh Sports Village on Monday evening.
His ball-carrying ability was on full display during the match. One of his driving runs from United’s half into Forest’s led to Chido Obi scoring his first goal of the contest.
The 19-year-old also registered his first assist of the season for Travis Binnion’s side, setting up the opening goal.
First-team manager Ruben Amorim is no stranger to the brilliance of the youngster.
Amorim was in attendance when the talented midfielder grabbed a brace in the U21s’ 5-1 win over Southampton last December.
He gave Moorhouse his first senior squad involvement last month, naming him in the matchday squad for the Premier League clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
It marked the first time the Ireland youth international had been included in a first-team matchday squad.
Since taking charge, Amorim has already handed league debuts to two academy players—striker Chido Obi and left-back Harry Amass. Moorhouse could soon join that group.
There is growing belief behind the scenes that the Irish midfielder could make his first-team debut before the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.
Moorhouse plays as a number 10 for the U21s and would likely play in that position if he makes his first-team debut before the end of the season.
He is not included in United’s Europa League squad, so his debut would likely come in the league—where the club currently has little or nothing left to play for.
United rank second among English top-flight clubs in minutes given to teenagers this season, and Moorhouse could be the next to benefit from that tradition.
