'Bright Future Ahead' For Debutant Ramsay
Hibs Girls Academy star Jessica Ramsay impressed on her First Team debut for the Club last weekend against Motherwell.
The youngster put in an assured performance after her introduction on 83 minutes at K-Park, battling hard in midfield as we sought to maintain our clean sheet victory over Paul Brownlie's side.
Jessica is our second 15-year-old debutant of the season following Isla Taylor’s substitute appearance versus Queen's Park in February, showcasing the pathway available to young players in the Girls Academy.
A well-earned senior debut comes for Jessica after over four months of training with the First Team squad since December 2024.
Catching the eye with 17 goal involvements this season with the Under-17s, as well as two more contributions in the Under-20s, it was only a matter of time before the teenager got her first taste of SWPL action.
Jess' performance made an impression on Head Coach Grant Scott, who is pleased by the progress made with the Academy spearheaded by Assistant Coach and Head of Girls Performance Academy Stewart Hall.
Known for nurturing potential and giving opportunities to many extremely successful Women's footballers, Scott is keen for Hibs Women to again become synonymous with talent development.
“I thought Jessica did really well," he commented. "She showed a good composure, nice touches, and she didn't seem overawed by the occasion or the physicality of the opponent.
“She has been doing well with the Under-17s. And she’s trained with us a few times and been in a few match day squads when we've not managed to get her on the pitch.
"This is what we are all about, we're trying to create something here. We'll hopefully have a pathway right through now, and show that we're still a progressive club back to giving these players an opportunity.”
Captaining local girl Jessica through her senior debut in South Lanarkshire was vice-captain Ellis Notley, who happens to teach the 15-year-old in Tranent as well as now play alongside her.
Ellis, impressed by, but well-aware of, Jessica's tenacity and work-rate had only good things to say about her teammate - and pupil - following Saturday's win to Hibs TV.
"Jessica is a great girl. To have her in with the squad and training with us has been great. She is a credit to herself, her family and her school.
"She came on and got stuck right in and she has a bright future ahead of her."
