Bruins Place Two On Waivers After Losing Streak Hits Eight Games

The Boston Bruins made a roster move Sunday after their losing streak was extended to eight games with a defeat to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.

The Bruins announced they placed both Patrick Brown and Vinni Lettieri on waivers. Both Brown and Lettieri, who spent a majority of this season with Boston’s AHL affiliate, were in the lineup in the narrow 2-1 loss to the Red Wings.

Brown played in 13 games with the Bruins this season, 11 of which came this month as Boston won only two of those contests. Brown posted just one assist in his time with the Bruins this season.

Lettieri netted 20 goals and 28 assists for Providence this season, but that production didn’t carry over to the NHL. The 30-year-old made his Bruins debut in January and contributed two goals and one assist in 19 games. Lettieri spent the entire month of February with Providence before being recalled by Boston at the beginning of March.

The Bruins likely made these moves to create more playing opportunities for younger players in their organization with just eight games left in the regular season.

It’s a good chance for the Bruins to see what they have in those players as they are in the range of having a top-five pick in this summer’s NHL draft.
