Tottenham fans name the front three they want to see against Eintracht Frankfurt
Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left impressed after Mathys Tel’s impressive display for France’s U21 side against Slovakia, with some even calling for him to start in Spurs’ upcoming Europa League quarter-final clash against Frankfurt.
Seventeen Tottenham Hotspur players are currently away on international duty, representing their respective countries. Among them is Mathys Tel, who is with France’s U21 side.
Since joining up with the squad, Tel has featured twice—first coming off the bench in their match against England’s U21s, where Wilson Odobert started, before getting a place in the starting XI against Slovakia, where he made a significant impact.
The Spurs forward put on a show in that clash, netting twice in the first half to put France in control. He opened the scoring in style, cutting in from the left—the same position he played in his last outing for Tottenham—before curling a brilliant effort into the far corner.
His second was all about composure, latching onto a ball in behind before delicately lobbing the onrushing goalkeeper.
Tottenham fans react to Mathys Tel’s performance
At Spurs, we have yet to see this kind of display from Tel, where he grabs a game by the scruff of the neck and delivers a brace.
The youngster has managed just one goal in seven appearances for the north London club, but his performances on international duty have sparked fresh debate over his place in the team.
After asking fans whether they believe Tel deserves a start for Tottenham against Frankfurt in the Europa League, the response was lively. One fan kept it simple: “Yes.”
Another put forward their ideal front three: “It should be Tel, Solanke, Odobert.” Another supporter weighed in: “That is where he is best—on the left.”
Some believe he has done enough to warrant serious consideration. “Tel, Odobert and Dom are clearly the best candidates for us in those forward areas, no doubt in my mind,” said one fan.
Others urged caution, with one suggesting: “We have two league games before then. He should start at least one of those and show he’s worthy of a place v Frankfurt.”
Another was more sceptical: “Unless he’s gonna up his game massively, not at all, thanks.”

Should Tel start for Tottenham against Frankfurt?
It is clear that many Spurs fans have faith in Mathys Tel. However, there’s little evidence to suggest he is ready to start one of Tottenham’s biggest games of the season.
When it comes to high-pressure fixtures, Ange Postecoglou is likely to turn to his most trusted and experienced players.
Heung-min Son, for example, has racked up 11 goals and 11 assists in 40 appearances and is the natural first-choice on the left.
On the right, if Dejan Kulusevski recovers from his foot injury in time, he will likely return to the starting XI—either in his usual wide position or deeper in midfield.
This leaves Odobert, who scored twice in Spurs’ win over AZ and provided two assists against England’s U21s, as the leading candidate for the right flank.
Tel’s recent performances have been encouraging, and if he keeps impressing, he could force his way into Postecoglou’s plans.
