Alan Sugar calls Sol Campbell a liar after huge Tottenham accusation

0 20

Alan Sugar has completely dismissed Sol Campbell’s allegation that Tottenham tried to exploit him ahead of contract negotiations, with the former Spurs chairman setting the record straight regarding why the centre-back left White Hart Lane for Highbury.

Sol Campbell remains enemy number one for Spurs fans after deciding to run his contract down and join the old enemy, but he has now levelled a massive accusation towards his former employers.

Speaking to The Overlap, Campbell accused Tottenham of trying to frame him in a police investigation involving a bust-up that happened at Derby County.

The centre-back asserted that the Spurs hierarchy wanted him to be charged with assaulting a steward so that they could retain him on a more modest contract.

Alan Suger reacts to Sol Campbell’s accusation

Tottenham’s then-owner, Sir Alan Sugar, has now accused Campbell of peddling a lie about what went on 24 years ago.

He labelled the 50-year-old’s story ‘absolutely rubbish’ and insisted that he was under the impression that the pair had a good relationship with each other.

Sugar also took to social media to make it clear that the former Tottenham Hotspur captain was demanding £140,000 per week to stay a White Hart Lane, which would have been astronomically high wages by 2001 standards.

Why Tottenham fans may not be inclined to believe Campbell

If Campbell’s story is indeed true, then perhaps he had a good reason to feel aggrieved and might have been justified in wanting to get back at Tottenham.

However, one does wonder why he would come out with this new version of events all these years after his controversial move.

Sol Campbell is unlikely to get any sympathy from many Tottenham fans and will likely remain despised for a long time.
