Tottenham push to beat Man United to £38m-rated Franco Mastantuono
Tottenham Hotspur have now stepped up their pursuit of a young Argentine starlet Franco Mastantuono, and their hopes of beating Manchester United to the player have now received a significant boost.
Tottenham have prioritised signing young, up-and-coming talent over the last couple of years and the transfer strategy has proved effective, with the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray coming on leaps and bounds since their switch to N17.
Spurs also showed with their acquisition of Alejo Veliz in 2023 that they are keeping an eye on the best young talent in Argentine football.
The Lilywhites are now reportedly looking to raid the Primera Division for another one of their gems, who has been turning a lot of heads with his performances of late.
Spurs now challenging Man United for midfielder
GiveMeSport have now claimed that Spurs have ‘upped the ante’ in their attempts to beat Manchester United to the services of River Plate starlet Franco Mastantuono.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder, who has four goals and four assists, since breaking into River Plate’s senior side, was already on the radar of the Red Devils, but Tottenham Hotspur have now ‘made contact’ to find out about the possibility of a deal.
It is pointed out that Mastantuono’s contract contains a release clause of around £38m but Spurs are determined to discover if they can sign him for a lower fee.
Tottenham’s interest in the teenager is said to be ‘rising’, with Ange Postecoglou hoping that the Lilywhites can secure a deal for the youngster.
Why Tottenham have an advantage over Man United in the transfer race
GiveMeSport go on to explain that although Ruben Amorim had identified Mastantuono as a target, United’s move for the midfielder has stalled.
It is said that the Manchester club’s plans to redevelop Old Trafford will pose severe financial limitations on their transfer spending, which gives Tottenham an advantage in the race.
The Red Devils are also thought to be prioritising other alternative targets, which opens the door for Spurs to steal a march on them in the race for Mastantuono.
