Amanda Staveley wanted to bring a famous director to Tottenham Hotspur
A report has shed light on Amanda Staveley’s plans for Tottenham Hotspur had she been successful in her attempt to raise the funds necessary to buy a stake in the North London club.
Until a few months ago, we were regularly hearing reports suggesting that Daniel Levy and Amanda Staveley had held talks over a potential minority sale of Tottenham.
Those reports have now gone quiet since the turn of the year, although other private investors have allegedly continued to show interest in Spurs.
Now a fresh report has revealed what Staveley’s plan was had she been successful in buying a stake in Tottenham.
Amanda Staveley wanted to bring Dougie Freedman to Spurs
The Times have now revealed that if Staveley had been successful in raising sufficient funds to take over Spurs, she was planning to make a change at the top.
The report claims that the former Newcastle co-owner was keen on bringing Crystal Palace’s director of football, Dougie Freedman, to Tottenham, which means that Johan Lange would have found himself out of a job.
Freedman has signed a number of young players during his time at the Eagles, who have gone on to evolve into some of the best players across the Premier League, including Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton and Dean Henderson.
The 50-year-old’s time at Selhurst Park will come to an end this summer as he has now agreed to join Saudi Pro League club, Al-Diriyah.
Why Amanda Staveley might not have got her way at Tottenham
For Staveley to have hired her own director of football, she and her consortium would have needed to buy a controlling stake in Tottenham rather than just a minority stake.
It is unclear if that would have been possible as reports indicate that Levy wants to continue running the club even in the event of a takeover.
In fact, some experts have even suggested that Levy’s desire to continue steering the ship might have put off potential investors from formalising their interest in the club.
