Manchester City Women will take on Chelsea Women in the Champions League just days after they lost the League Cup final to Sonia Bompastor’s side.

City will be desperate to make full use of home advantage on Wednesday ahead of the away leg next week.

However, the former New York City boss failed to make an immediate impact as the Citizens lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Pride Park Stadium last weekend.

Mayra Ramirez delivered an early breakthrough before Aoba Fujino levelled the scores after the hour mark.

But Yui Hasegawa’s own-goal proved decisive as the Blues went on to lift their third League Cup trophy.

Chelsea have had an excellent 2024-25 season under Sonia Bompaster. They are currently eight points clear at the top of the Women’s Super League, having won 14 and drawing two of their 16 total games.

The Londoners have claimed the first piece of silverware but will be looking to add more trophies.

Team News

Manchester City have several injury woes this week as Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp are sidelined with knee issues. Newcomer Rebecca Knaak is also not expected to be involved, having missed the last four games with a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Bunny Shaw is a doubt after she came off in the latter stages of the cup final.

As for Chelsea, they will not be able to call upon the services of Sophie Ingle, Naomi Girma, Maelys Mpome, Sam Kerr, Zecira Musovic and Kadeisha Buchanan due to fitness issues.
