Defender Speaks Out After Reportedly Being Traded By Patriots
Davon Godchaux is excited about his next chapter.
The New England Patriots on Monday morning reportedly agreed to trade Godchaux to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick. The Patriots signed Godchaux to a fairly expensive contract extension last summer, but the veteran defensive tackle reportedly was given permission in late February to seek a trade.
While the Saints are coming off a 5-12 season, Godchaux was thrilled to be sent to New Orleans. The 30-year-old is about to be back in very familiar surroundings, as he was born and raised in the Baton Rouge area and played collegiate football at LSU.
“Home is where the heart is!” Godchaux posted to X. “Excited to be coming home and playing for the great state of Louisiana! A dream come true to play High school ball, College ball, and now NFL in the same state! So ready for this opportunity to play in front of WHODATNATION!! God makes no mistake. LETS GOOOO.”
While Godchaux seemingly doesn’t have any reasons to resent the Patriots, he nonetheless might play with some added motivation later this year when New England travels to New Orleans for a regular-season tilt.
