NFL Trade Rumors: Patriots Receive Promising DK Metcalf Update

If the Patriots trade for DK Metcalf, it might not cost New England as much as initially anticipated.

The Seahawks reportedly are exploring trade opportunities for Metcalf, who requested a move out of Seattle. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini initially reported the Seahawks wanted a first-round draft pick and a third-round selection in exchange for the star wide receiver, but the NFL insider provided an update on Seattle’s asking price Sunday morning.

“The Seahawks’ asking price for WR DK Metcalf has lowered, per sources,” Russini posted to X. “Seattle would be open to a return centered around a second-round pick for the two-time Pro Bowl receiver.”

A cheaper price obviously is good news for the Patriots, who badly need to improve their receiving corps this offseason. But the Foxboro Faithful might not want to get too excited about the idea of Metcalf playing in New England, as the two-time Pro Bowl selection “ideally wants to play in a warm weather climate,” per Russini. Metcalf also reportedly wants to make $30 million annually on his next contract.

Those factors shouldn’t dissuade the Patriots from pursuing the 2019 second-round pick, though. Metcalf is a highly productive wideout in the thick of his prime, and history suggests New England won’t find its next great wide receiver in the draft.

All things considered, the Patriots should make a serious run at Metcalf.
