Fabrizio Romano provides update on two Tottenham targets – Angel Gomes and Jonathan David
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed what he has heard on the futures of Angel Gomes and Jonathan David as the pair edge closer to free agency, with the update suggesting that Tottenham are still in with a shot of securing the Lille duo.
There is no doubt that Angel Gomes and Jonathan David are going to be among the most hotly contested players of the summer transfer window if the pair do not extend their contracts at Lille.
Some reports over recent weeks have claimed that Spurs have already made Gomes a pre-contact offer after reaching out to the midfielder.
However, Tottenham are expected to face competition from several Premier League rivals for Gomes, while the same is also true of the Canadian international.
It has emerged over recent days that Tottenham’s London rivals, Arsenal and West Ham are expected to step up their pursuit of David as both clubs are keen to bolster their forward line in the summer.
Fabrizio Romano makes big revelation on Angel Gomes and Jonathan David
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Gomes has made up his mind to leave the Stade Pierre-Mauroy this summer, with Premier League and Bundesliga clubs both circling over him.
Romano told GiveMeSport about the midfielder: “Yes, Premier League is a possibility for Angel Gomes while also clubs in the Bundesliga asked for information to his new agents. He will 100% leave Lille.”
The Italian transfer expert also explained that the race for David’s signature is wide open, with the striker yet to make a final decision on his next destination.
When asked about the Hammers’ rumoured move for the Canadian striker, Romano responded: “At the moment, nothing advanced for Jonathan David to West Ham. There are many clubs keen, but David is waiting for different clubs now.”
Will Tottenham offer big contracts to attract Gomes and David?
Gomes and David are evidently running down their contracts at Lille in order to get lucrative deals at their next clubs as free agents.
The pair are going to be of interest to a whole host of top clubs around Europe, and it remains to be seen if Tottenham will go toe-to-toe with them in terms of the total package offered to those players.
The main criticism of the Spurs hierarchy from some quarters is that they have not offered competitive enough salaries to attract players of the highest echelon, and supporters will be hoping that changes in the summer.
