Red Sox Injuries: New Info On Starter As Opening Day Nears
Alex Cora on Tuesday labeled Brayan Bello as a “full go,” but that might not mean the Red Sox starter takes the mound when Boston goes through its first pitching rotation of the season.
Bello wasn’t able to hit the ground running in Red Sox spring training due to a shoulder issue. The right-hander is set to throw another bullpen session next Thursday, and Boston doesn’t seem at all concerned about his status. That said, Bello might not be on the club’s initial active roster when the regular season begins.
“The team doesn’t want to skip steps, so Bello appears likely to start the season on the injured list, though it could be a short stint,” The Boston Globe reported Tuesday.
Cora stressed the Red Sox plan to be “smart” with Bello, who the Boston manager deemed “very important” to the club’s success in 2025. It’s also going to be somewhat of a “prove it” campaign for the 25-year-old, who soon will embark on his third full season as a Red Sox starter.
If there’s a silver lining to Bello’s timeline for the Red Sox, it could be an under-the-radar pitcher having the chance to make an early impression in the big leagues. One fascinating arm, specifically, very well could take that opportunity and run with it.
