Match Report: AFC Fylde 2-1 Hartlepool United
AFC Fylde dug deep to earn a huge three points at Mill Farm on Tuesday night as they ran out 2-1 winners over Hartlepool United.
Goals from Gavin Massey and Charlie Jolley earned the Coasters a comeback win as all three goals came in the first 45.
The visitors found an early advantage with a fantastic free kick, David Ferguson curling the ball around Ben Winterbottom, and hitting the post on its way into the net.
Soon after, the Coasters had an answer. A bold attempt from outside the box by Gavin Massey squirmed past Hartlepool keeper Adam Smith and found the back of the net in the 12th minute.
Another free-kick was awarded to the Pools 25 yards from the goal which Ferguson took but saw the effort tipped over by Winterbottom.
Fylde continued their momentum with an excellent move into the box which ended with Charlie Jolley slamming the ball home to turn the game on its head.
Ben Winterbottom made two sensational consecutive saves from point blank range to deny the game being levelled as he denied Gary Madine just seconds after being bundled over in the area.
Winterbottom produced another incredible save just before the end of the first half which kept Fylde ahead.
The visitors were slowly gaining traction in the second half, but excellent defensive blocks by Harry Davis and Corey Whelan assured the Coasters kept their noses infront.
Haughton tried his luck with a free-kick which struck the wall as Fylde pushed for a third.
There was an additional eight added minutes as Fylde were holding on in the latter stages.
But the defence dug deep and earned a huge three points under the lights with a home clash against Braintree Town to follow on Saturday.
