National team manager hints Tottenham star may be set for prominent role
A national team boss has now made it clear that he has been keeping a close eye on the progress of one Tottenham youngster, thus potentially sending a hint that the teenager may be set for a more prominent role for his national side.
Lucas Bergvall did have his struggles at the start of the season, with the 18-year-old naturally finding it difficult initially to cope with the intensity of football at the highest level after making the switch from Sweden.
However, once the midfielder got used to the demands of Tottenham’s system and football in the Premier League, he has not looked back, making himself a regular in the heart of Ange Postecoglou‘s midfield.
The youngster is now making massive strides, showcasing his incredible engine and his quality on the ball, and he now looks set to take that form into international football.
Sweden boss sends Lucas Bergvall hint to Tottenham
While Bergvall has been in and around the Sweden national team for a while, it feels like now is the time for the teenager to be handed a more prominent role on the back of his recent exploits.
Ahead of Sweden’s upcoming clashes against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland, manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has been speaking about the impressive form of the Tottenham man and Brighton’s Yasin Ayari.
He told Expressen: “At the same time, we have Lucas Bergvall. I almost brought him in straight away and he got playing time in three of the games. That’s a lot too. Ayari too. There’s a lot of potential. And to use a young player four out of five times, for me that’s a lot.”
Tomasson made it very clear that he and his coaching staff have kept a close eye on all of Bergvall’s performances for Spurs over recent months.
When asked if there is a need to be more patient with the Tottenham man and other young players, he responded: “It’s obviously up to different people what they think. We’re looking at 50-55 players at the moment. We started with 40 and have built on a little.
“The list is growing. We work very specifically and know exactly what a player does in the clubs. Whether he plays in the Allsvenskan or in the best Italian league.
“We know what they do in all situations. Nothing surprises us. At the same time, we have data. We can’t make mistakes like that, we know exactly what the players do.”
Bergvall cannot be left out of Sweden’s starting lineup
Tomasson simply cannot afford to leave the Tottenham youngster out of his starting eleven for the upcoming friendlies, given how well he has done in the most difficult league in the world.
Bergvall has passed every challenge thrown in front of him with flying colours and there is no doubt that the youngster will thrive in international football if he is backed.
