Dominic Solanke spotted in training ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur’s Dominic Solanke joins Cristian Romero as the latest injured players to be spotted in training ahead of the Lilywhites’ clash with Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur’s Dominic Solanke has spent the last month on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury in training. The English striker’s absence has been keenly felt, with Spurs missing his presence up front in key fixtures.
When the 27-year-old picked up the injury, Ange Postecoglou confirmed Solanke was expected to be out for at least six weeks. Since then, he has missed nine matches across all competitions, including high-profile fixtures.
That spell on the sidelines saw the Englishman miss Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool and the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Aston Villa—both of which ended in disappointing defeats for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham handed a major boost as Dominic Solanke returns to training
However, ahead of their Premier League encounter with Manchester City, Tottenham received a significant boost as Dominic Solanke was spotted back in training with his teammates.
The sight of the former Bournemouth striker back on the grass comes just days after Cristian Romero, who had been out for 78 days due to injury, was also seen outside in training.
Of course, over recent weeks, Spurs have been gradually welcoming back key players from injury. The likes of Guglielmo Vicario, Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, and Wilson Odobert have all returned.
Now, with Romero and Solanke nearing full fitness, only Micky van de Ven and Richarlison remain unaccounted for in training.
Ange Postecoglou’s cautious approach to Dominic Solanke’s return
While the striker’s presence in training is a promising sign, Ange Postecoglou has warned it may still take some time before Solanke is ready for competitive action.
“Richarlison, Cristian Romero, Dominic Solanke, and Micky van de Ven are all tracking really well with an eye on our UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first leg at AZ Alkmaar (6 March) and Premier League clash against Bournemouth (9 March),” Postecoglou stated.
“They are all at similar stages, hopefully in the next seven to ten days,” he added. “A couple of them are already training, but over that period, we will start incorporating them back into matchday squads.”
When asked whether the target was for the quartet to be available against AZ Alkmaar, Postecoglou remained optimistic but measured. “Yes, potentially. I am not sure if they will participate in that, but the idea is that at least a couple of them should be back in training and available for that game.
“Obviously, we have to back that up on the weekend against Bournemouth, so with two games coming up, I am hoping if we can get a couple more back, it means again we can tackle those two games with a strong squad.”
