U18s Report: Queen’s Park 2 Hibs 2
The wee Hibees were held to a 2-2 draw with Queen’s Park on Friday (21 February) evening in Glasgow.
Darren McGregor’s side had to come from behind twice in the match to earn a share of the spoils at Lochinch Sports Complex.
The hosts opened the scoring in the second half with Connor Falls lifting the ball over Ryan Mallon with a smart finish on 55 minutes.
Hibs hit back from the penalty spot – after Hibs Captain Josh McGrath was fouled in the box following a set-piece.
Dean Cleland shouldered the responsibility and tucked away the penalty – smashing the ball into the top right corner to level the scores.
There was more drama in the final few minutes of the match when Sam Maclachlan fired in a low driver spot after a flick-on in the penalty area to put the hosts back in front.
But the Hibees responded in impressive fashion with Rory Whittaker getting on the end of Dean Cleland’s cross at the back post. Rory showed great desire to get into the penalty area before composing himself and side-footing the ball home to earn the wee Hibees a point.
The result extends the wee Hibees' unbeaten run to six matches and is another point on the board in what is a competitive U18 CAS Elite League table.
Hibs currently lead the way on 43 points from 20 matches, four points clear of Kilmarnock and five clear of Rangers. However, both of these teams have games in hand on the wee Hibees.
