Roman Anthony’s Former Coach Predicts Accolades For Top Red Sox Prospect
Roman Anthony is on the verge of starting his MLB career with his debut on the horizon for the Boston Red Sox.
Boston’s top prospect is among the talk of camp with fellow elite talent Kristian Campbell with open chances to crack the Opening Day roster for the Red Sox. Once he does get his shot in the show, Anthony appears poised to contribute in stride.
Anthony’s talent stretches back to his high school days at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. His head coach, Todd Fitz-Gerald, saw a special talent rise from a historically proven program that has produced numerous MLB draft picks.
Fitz-Gerald knows what kind of impact Anthony can make on the Red Sox and sees him racking up quite the resume at the big-league level.
“You’re playing a kids’ game, man,” Fitz-Gerald told NESN.com. “Have fun doing it and be able to handle the highs and lows. Could he be the Rookie of the Year? Yeah, if he gets in there early enough. Could he have a great half of a rookie campaign? Absolutely. I see him as a multiple-time All-Star. I could tell you that. I see him as a 10-to-15-year big-leaguer. I see him probably as, maybe one of these days, a batting champion. That’s what I feel he can bring. The city of Boston is going to love him.”
The Red Sox scratched Anthony from Friday’s lineup against the Northeastern Huskies after being hit by a pitch in batting practice.
