Travis Kelce Addresses Retirement Speculation After Super Bowl Loss
Was the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss Travis Kelce’s final NFL game?
That’s a possibility until Kansas City’s star tight end says otherwise.
Kelce and his team had a chance to make league history last Sunday, but their bid for a Super Bowl three-peat was emphatically shut down by a dominant Philadelphia Eagles effort. Kelce was a complete non-factor at Caesars Superdome, which made fans and media members wonder if the 35-year-old could call it quits this offseason.
The 10-time Pro Bowl selection weighed in on that topic on the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast, which was released three days after Kelce missed out on his fourth Lombardi Trophy.
“I’m gonna take some time to figure it out,” Kelce said, as transcribed by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. “And I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back that it’s gonna be a wholehearted decision and I’m not half-assing it, and I’m fully here for them. I think I can play, it’s just whether or not I’m motivated or it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person to take on all that responsibility.”
The realistic prospects of adding another championship ring to his collection might be enough of a motivating factor to keep Kelce in the game. After all, the Chiefs currently have the second-shortest odds at FanDuel Sportsbook to win Super Bowl LX.
Then again, a very prosperous and far less rigorous post-playing career undoubtedly will commence for Kelce whenever he decides to hang up his pads. So the future Pro Football Hall of Famer has quite a bit to consider in the coming weeks.
