Spurs are concerned about missing out on 25-year-old this summer
Tottenham fear that they might have fallen behind other clubs across Europe in the race to sign a forward after rejecting the chance to sign the player during the January window.
Jonathan David will be on the move this summer
Jonathan David has been one of the most consistent goalscorers across Europe’s top-five leagues over recent years, having scored 104 goals and provided 27 assists in 217 matches for Lille.
The forward is now free to agree a pre-contract agreement with a non-French club as he is now into the final six months of his deal at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
It has been widely reported for many months that Tottenham are one of the Premier League sides keen on landing David on a free at the end of the season. However, a fresh update suggests that the Lilywhites are not optimistic about their chances of winning the race for the striker.
Spurs ‘fearful’ of missing out on Jonathan David
A fresh update by GiveMeSport has now claimed that the Spurs hierarchy are fearful that they will be unable to win the race for the Canada international in the summer.
The report states that Spurs were offered a chance to sign David at the start of the January window, but they decided against making a move for him, preferring to wait until his contract ran out.
However, Tottenham as well as London rivals, West Ham, are said to have concerns that the 25-year-old is now thinking about embarking on a different challenge with an alternative suitor.
The outlet remarks that the Spurs and the Hammers do not believe that they are at the front of the queue to sign the Lille star any longer, and they might regret their decision not to pounce on him when they had the opportunity to do so.
David is close to finalising his decision
GiveMeSport say that one leading European club has been showing an interest in David since the beginning of the year, and there are concerns at Spurs that his head might have been turned as a result.
The publication adds that the former Gent man is now ‘close to making a final decision over his future’ after having already ruled out the possibility of staying at Lille beyond this season.
