On a chilly Friday morning at the TSG Elite Training Centre, the visitors took the lead on eight minutes, when the ball was scrambled in the net following some pinball in the box.
Michael McSorley doubled Brentford’s lead on 21 minutes.
Tom Charles brought on Kemoko Keita-Turay at the expense of Isaiah Balogun.
Teddy Tarbotton, twisted and turned close to the bye-line before squaring the ball, which ended up being cleared in front of the goal-line.
From Rangers’ first corner, Teddy Tarbotton headed over the bar from a position near the far-post.
On 39 minutes, Josh Wright was put through one-on-one, which resulted in Evan Anderson stopping his shot with his legs.
Kemoko Keita-Turay was grounded for a period and wasn’t able to come back on and just before the break Kyreece Moore replaced him.
The visitors had two opportunities before the interval. Firstly, Michel Boni screwed the ball wide of the target, which was soon followed by Callum Loades making a good save from the same player. Half-time: 0-2.
Into the second-half and Emeka Peters forced a flying save from the R’s keeper, and the ball went behind for a corner.
After Philip Sanyaolu and Leon Scarlett swapped wings, the latter weaved his way goalwards. Evan Anderson moved towards him and the ball ended up just wide of the upright.
At the other end, Domeiro Bobb-Semple, whilst on the run, let fly, and Callum Loades was able to make a comfortable save. This was followed by Mr Conn booking Rocco Friel.
The Bees went further ahead on 63 minutes courtesy of Michael McSorley’s close-range flick from a corner. And it was four just two minutes later.
A good move saw Philip Sanyaolu passing to Kyreece Moore on the left and his first time cross just evaded Rocco Friel in the box.
Kaya Halil was shown a yellow card after a pull-back on an opponent.
On 72 minutes, there was a change of strikers when Mehmet Recber came on for Josh Wright.
Brentford went five-up seven minutes or so later following a corner.
Rangers pulled a goal back on 82 minutes with Leon Scarlett’s first-time strike after receiving the ball from the bye-line.
Then, Mehmet Recber’s close-range shot was palmed over the crossbar.
The R’s managed a second goal four minutes before the ninety when Leon Scarlett nodded in Philip Sanyaolu’s cross.
The final 15 minutes were the best period of play for the home side.
Philip Sanyaolu went close to narrowing the score on two occasions just before the final whistle.
Next up for Tom Charles’ side was a trip to Bristol in January.
