One Big Takeaway As Bruins Shut Out Wild In Goaltending Duel
The Bruins faced off against the Minnesota Wild for the first time in the 2024-25 season on Tuesday night at TD Garden and ruined Marc-Andre Fleury’s final trip to Boston.
Boston, fresh off an encouraging win against the New York Rangers on Saturday, got outstanding goaltending from Jeremy Swayman en route to a 3-0 victory, which improved their record to 27-22-6.
Swayman made 35 saves, four on the penalty kill, for his third shutout of the season. The Bruins star netminder improved to 18-17-4. Fleury stopped 32 of 34 Boston shots he faced.
Charlie McAvoy and Trent Frederic scored goals in the second period that put Minnesota in a two-goal deficit after Fleury turned aside 14 Bruins shots in the opening frame. Morgan Geekie tallied the empty net goal to secure the victory with 46 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Bruins know how to win, and they have done so in their last two contests, outscoring their opponents 9-3. However, Boston won’t have time to relish the victory. They will need to keep their foot on the gas when they head to the Big Apple to take on the Rangers on Wednesday night.
Puck drop from Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will air on TNT. The Bruins’ next game on NESN will take place after the two-week break for the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Feb. 22.
