BU Captain Might Have Goal Of Beanpot After Highlight-Reel Tally
BOSTON — Boston University forward Shane Lachance will wake up Tuesday morning and probably find himself on “SportsCenter.”
That’s what happens when you score a spectacular goal on the Dunkin’ Beanpot stage, like Lachance did Monday night in a resounding 7-1 win for the eighth-ranked Terriers over Harvard.

Lachance might already own the goal of the tournament after the sensational individual effort he pulled off just minutes into the second period on the power play. The Terriers captain, who is also the grandson of legendary BU coach Jack Parker, put the puck through his legs before flipping it into the back of the net.
The goal drew a tremendous reaction from those at TD Garden, even after a couple of replays on the giant video boards. But BU head coach Jay Pandolfo wasn’t completely in awe of Lachance’s highlight-reel goal.
“I’ve seen it from him before in practice. He’s got a great skill set around the net. That’s where he’s really good,” Pandolfo said. “Not real surprised. It’s not an easy play to make under pressure when you got a guy trying to get his stick in there, but he did it really quickly. It’s tough for the goalie to save. It was impressive, it was fun to watch and he was excited.
“He was struggling a little bit to score goals. He got one the other night and now hopefully he takes off from here. Just needed a little confidence and he certainly had it there.”
Lachance’s tally was one of seven unanswered goals for the Terriers and it proved to be the decisive goal in a 1-1 deadlock. It also started a five-goal second period for BU and it’s clear Harvard coach Ted Donato felt the play from Lachance was a turning point in the game.
There was just nothing the Crimson could do about it, though.
“I certainly think they have several players that can make a play and at certain times in the game where you almost got to tip your cap,” Donato said. “I thought the goal by Lachance was just a tremendous individual play. His reach and his skill set, I think that was tough.”
