Tottenham are being linked with Andoni Iraola

A whole host of names have been put forward over the last few weeks as possible replacements for Ange Postecoglou as the pressure continues to mount on the Tottenham head coach.

The one name that has appeared in the press more often than any other is that of Andoni Iraola, whose reputation has blossomed in light of the impressive job he has done at Bournemouth over the last 18 months.

Some outlets have reported over recent weeks that the Cherries might offer the Spaniard a new contract in order to keep him off the clutches of Spurs and other interested clubs.

Fabrizio Romano even suggested a few days ago that the 42-year-old would not be willing to leave the Vitality Stadium in the middle of the season.

Mokbel now reveals that Iraola is admired by the Tottenham hierarchy, who have been impressed with the work he had done at the South Coast.

The journalist confidently asserts that should the Cherries boss be willing to talk to Spurs, the North London club would definitely have a conversation with him about taking over the hot seat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – if it becomes vacant.

Mokbel told The Last Word On Spurs: “I think there is certainly admiration for the Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, he’s done a fantastic job down there on the South Coast. One of the brightest emerging managerial talents in the Premier League, without a doubt.

“With what he’s done at Bournemouth and the way they play, a young vibrant team – that would absolutely fit the bill for Tottenham Hotspur. Particularly with the way they are trying to go with the signings they are making under Johan Lange and Scott Munn and the recruitment staff there.

“If there was a chance for Tottenham to have that conversation with him with a view to appointing as possibly Postecoglou’s successor I think that’s a conversation they would definitely look to have. He would certainly be a contender.”

Would Iraola be a good replacement for Postecoglou?

From the candidates available at the moment, Iraola seems like the best fit for Tottenham, given that he is proven in the Premier League and plays attacking football.

However, appointing the 42-year-old will not come without risk as there is no guarantee that he will be able to translate his success at Bournemouth into a more high-pressure environment.

If he is the best candidate that Spurs can get at the moment, the club might be hesitant to make a change right now and will want to give Postecoglou a chance to turn things around once he has his key players fit.
