Tottenham’s focus on becoming the home of the best youth talent continues with a deal to bring 18-year-old Daniel Batty from Manchester City into the Spurs academy system.

Tottenham excel in identifying academy talent

Academy transfers often go under the radar as there is no guarantee that the players will go on to play for the first team.

However, Tottenham are keen to turn the club into the home of the best youth talent in Europe.

Spurs have made successful youth transfers in recent years who have excelled in the academy and gone on to make first-team debuts. These include Alfie Devine and Will Lankshear and there is hope that 17-year-old George Feeney will one day make that step as well.

Spurs agree deal to bring Daniel Batty from Manchester City

Tottenham have struck again in the youth market by agreeing a deal to bring 18-year-old Daniel Batty from Manchester City to Hotspur Way.

According to Fabrizio Romano on X, the deal will involve a £500,000 transfer fee as well as future add-ons with a sell-on percentage.

The attacking midfielder is currently undergoing a medical before the deal will be confirmed.

Youth deals have financial and squad registration benefits

There is so much to be gained from positive youth deals. Of course, producing the likes of Harry Kane from your academy means that you have a player worth €100m for free.

However, the squad registration rules in the Champions League and Europa League mean that players who come from the academy and can contribute to the first team become even more valuable.

UEFA competitions have club-trained registration slots which need to be filled. Additionally, if a club does fill them, it allows for more squad-building versatility in pursuing foreign players that best suit the team.
