Over the last 24 hours, it has become clear that a huge transfer battle is emerging for the services of Mathys Tel, with Spurs very much in the thick of it.
It was revealed by Fabrizio Romano earlier today that Tottenham’s technical director Johan Lange was at the Allianz Arena yesterday to watch the Frenchman in the Champions League clash against Slovan Bratislava.
The Italian journalist explained that Spurs are keen to wrap up a permanent deal for the 19-year-old before the window slams shut on Monday.

Tottenham are prepared to buy Mathys Tel permanently
Journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed that although Tottenham are open to a loan deal for Mathys Tel, they would also be happy to insert an obligation-to-buy clause or purchase him outright.
The Lilywhites reportedly see Tel as an investment for the future rather than a mere stop-gap to ease the injury crisis in North London.
Ben Jacobs told the Last Word on Spurs: “I am told that Tottenham would commit to a loan with an obligation, or depending on the finances a straight purchase.
“I think Tottenham are looking at Tel for the long term, not just as a stop-gap and I do think he is one of their top targets in the final days of the window. He is available as well.”
Will Tottenham be able to convince Tel on a move?
The fact that Spurs are currently 15th in the table could be a major stumbling block to this deal.
Postecoglou and Lange‘s main pitch to Tel might be that he will get regular game time and would thrive in the club’s attack-minded system.
However, while a loan deal might be straightforward to agree, it remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old will greenlight a permanent move.
