Journalist explains why Patrick Dorgu is a 'statement’ signing from Ruben Amorim - report

0 0

Denmark international Patrick Dorgu is set to become Manchester United’s first senior signing under manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim has struggled to fully implement his tactical demands at United. The majority of Man United players have not adapted to his 3-4-2-1 set-up.

The left wing-back position has been a glaring weakness since the arrival of the Portuguese tactician.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have played mainly there but have struggled.

United have addressed the problem by signing Dorgu. The youngster has played as a right winger for Lecce this season but has the qualities to play as a left-wing-back.

Journalist Henry Winter believes Dorgu’s arrival indicates that Amorim is determined to fully implement his tactical demands at United.

He told the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast: “This is not simply a signing. This is a statement by Ruben Amorim.

“All the talk of ‘you have got to change your tactics and play more 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1’, which echoes the strength of the squad.

“No, he is not for turning – he has brought a wing-back in. It will be very much 3-4-2-1, and everyone has to fit in.

“What this means for a player like Alejandro Garnacho, who played like a number 10 on the left at Craven Cottage and ran his heart out. He helped create the winning goal for Lisandro Martinez.

“But will he be moved out because he is not a wing-back? With this statement signing, Man United are clearly going to be playing 3-4-2-1 under Amorim.”

Amorim has been criticised for sticking with his preferred formation despite United’s poor Premier League form.

However, he is determined to stick with the tactics that have brought him success in his managerial career.
