Having lost 6 of their last 7 league matches, questions are rife regarding Ange Postecoglou’s future as Spurs manager. Another managerial change-up may provide short-term relief for Tottenham, but it will come at a cost.

Tottenham cannot hide from unacceptable results

While appreciating every caveat of injury and poor squad depth, Tottenham’s results have been unacceptably poor.

Tottenham have only finished in the bottom half of the table once in the last 20 years. What is worse is that their current form will place them in the relegation battle.

There is hope that the return of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven will provide a significant boost to the team. However, after losing 6 of their last 7 Premier League games, a managerial change may occur before Spurs’ stars can return to the pitch.

Ange Postecoglou would receive a Tottenham payout

According to former Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness on the Inside Track podcast (The Sun), Ange Postecoglou is earning £5 million a year on a four-year deal.

With 18 months remaining on his contract, this would equate to a £12m payout.

£12m is still less than the amount that had to be paid to Mauricio Pochettino and Nuno Espirito Santo. Additionally, it is much less than the £20m paid to Jose Mourinho (talksport). However, it is no small sum and Daniel Levy would need to be certain of his next move to make it worthwhile.

The optics of another sacking make the move even more costly

Perhaps the results and failure to appropriately back Ange Postecoglou have already dealt lethal damage to the perception of Tottenham’s board.

Nevertheless, sacking their manager after claiming to support him would be the nail in the coffin. An indictment of the club’s mismanagement and continuous failure to implement a successful strategy.

Even if you draw a line and consider how Spurs have operated since Pochettino took charge and somewhat improved the stature of the club, the graveyard of managers and poorly conceived projects can only point to a footballing approach that is unacceptable from one of the most costly clubs to support in the world.
