“Collyer is an example for the young generation”
Manchester United beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening thanks to a goal from Lisandro Martinez. The Argentinean was named Man of the Match but reserved praise for 21-year-old Toby Collyer who came on as a second half substitute.
Why I’m so happy is because of this guy. This guy honestly is a big example for the young generation. I’m really happy for him because he is working so hard every day and he is so humble. He deserves it all.
With United ahead, Fulham were inches away from equalising before Collyer cleared off the line. Not only did he stop the ball from going in, he lifted his clearance to prevent a Fulham player bundling it over the line, showing his quick thinking.
After hearing Martinez’s praise, the young midfielder spoke about how much it meant to him for one of the senior players to rate him so highly.
It’s unbelievable. It’s coming from a World Cup winner so I couldn’t ask for anyone better really. But yeah, like he said, I’m just working hard and it’s a tough environment. I think that’s good, it makes you better as a player and your character as well. I’m just thinking about improving and helping the team as much as I can.
