Tottenham set sights on another Argentine midfielder

Spurs have had a history of skilful Argentine midfielders gracing the pitch at N17, from the famous duo of Ricky Villa and Ossie Ardiles to Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso more recently.

It looks like the Lilywhites have now turned their attention to another young Argentine magician, who has been lighting up the Premier League this season. The player is Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte, who is making a name for himself on loan at Leicester City.

The 20-year-old, who can play as a number ten or wide on the right, has five goals and three assists so far this season, and it has been widely reported over recent months that Tottenham have expressed an interest in the diminutive playmaker.

Spurs pushing for January deal for Facundo Buonanotte

When reading the speculation linking the Brighton man with a move to Tottenham, one would have assumed that these reports were talking about a potential transfer at the end of the season.

After all, the youngster is in the middle of a season-long loan spell at Leicester, but Fichajes have now suggested that Spurs could push for an agreement before the end of the current transfer window.

The report says that Ange Postecoglou‘s men want to add creativity to their midfield and Buonanotte is seen as a good fit due to his technical quality and versatility.

The Argentina international’s ability to dribble past players and disrupt defensive setups reportedly makes him an attractive option for the North London club.

The outlet claims that Tottenham could be ‘primed to make an advance in the latter stages of this transfer window’ and adds that ‘negotiations between clubs and Buonanotte’s agent are ongoing’.

That clearly suggests that the Seagulls do have the option to recall the youngster from his loan spell this month.

Obstacles to overcome for Spurs to do a deal

However, Fichajes also make it clear that Brighton want to keep hold of Buonanotte as they see him as someone who could be an important player for them.

The publication explains that Tottenham’s interest in the former Rosario Central man is not new but his qualities have also captured the attention of ‘other elite clubs in Europe’.

The competition between clubs to secure Buonanotte’s services promises is expected to ‘intensify in the coming days’.
