Key Personality From 2021 Red Sox Playoff Run Announces Retirement
Kevin Plawecki played crucial roles on and off the field when the 2021 Boston Red Sox made an unexpected run to the American League Championship Series.
The former catcher announced his retirement from baseball on Instagram Saturday night after eight seasons. Plawecki played for four teams during his career: the Red Sox, the New York Mets, the Cleveland Guardians, and the Texas Rangers.
Plawecki split time catching with Christian Vazquez during the 2021 run where the Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Game and eliminated the Tampa Bay Rays in four games in the American League Division Series. Plawecki spearheaded the emergence of Calum Scott’s single “Dancing On My Own” as the rallying tune of that postseason run.
Plawecki slashed .270/.333/.364 for a .697 OPS with five home runs across 148 games during his Red Sox tenure.
